My dad was moved to the Bristol Oncology Centre today and they then
told us that the elevated calcium level in his blood indicates that
the cancer has become very aggressive, that this means that the
thalidomide is no longer working, that he’s currently too weak to take
the other possible treatments, and that he probably won’t regain
enough strength to make further treatment an option. They can’t put an
accurate timescale on things, but they said it would be “days to
weeks” till the end. Until this evening, nobody had mentioned the
possibility that he might now have end-stage cancer, let alone used
the word “terminal”. Last time we saw the oncology consultant, he’d
sounded so positive…
I don’t know when I’ll update here next, nor when
I’ll be able to reply to emails (although I will try to find time to
read them sometimes, if possible). Thank you to everyone who has been
supportive.
I'm really sorry to hear that: you and your family have my sincere sympathies Rich.
